Adherens junctions

چکیده
How did genetic analysis get started in this system? Here we depended on a breakthrough from the lab of Peter Wolk and Jeff Elhai at Michigan State. They showed that DNA could be transferred by conjugation from E. coli to Anabaena. Postdoc Bill Buikema first isolated mutants incapable of fixing nitrogen, most of which could not differentiate heterocysts. He then used a cosmid library of wild-type DNA fragments to complement the mutants and thereby isolate the genes corresponding to the mutated genes. This method gave us many genes that effect heterocyst differentiation.

Rac1, but not RhoA, signaling protects epithelial adherens junction assembly during ATP depletion.
Rho family GTPase signaling regulates actin cytoskeleton and junctional complex assembly. Our previous work showed that RhoA signaling protects tight junctions from damage during ATP depletion. Here, we examined whether RhoA GTPase signaling protects adherens junction assembly during ATP depletion. Despite specific RhoA signaling- and ATP depletion-induced effects on adherens junction assembly,...
متن کاملFSH regulates the formation of adherens junctions and ectoplasmic specialisations between rat Sertoli cells in vitro and in vivo.
Spermatogenesis is dependent on the ability of Sertoli cells to form mature junctions that maintain a unique environment within the seminiferous epithelium. Adjacent Sertoli cells form a junctional complex that includes classical adherens junctions and testis-specific ectoplasmic specialisations (ES). The regulation of inter-Sertoli cell junctions by the two main endocrine regulators of spermat...
متن کاملIsolation of cell-to-cell adherens junctions from rat liver
A new isolation procedure for cell-to-cell adherens junctions has been developed using rat liver. From the bile canaliculi-enriched fraction obtained by homogenization of the liver and sucrose gradient centrifugation, the fraction rich in adherens junction was recovered by detergent treatment followed by sucrose gradient centrifugation. Light and electron microscopy revealed that this final fra...
متن کاملDLG-1 is a MAGUK similar to SAP97 and is required for adherens junction formation.
Cellular junctions are critical for intercellular communication and for the assembly of cells into tissues. Cell junctions often consist of tight junctions, which form a permeability barrier and prevent the diffusion of lipids and proteins between cell compartments, and adherens junctions, which control the adhesion of cells and link cortical actin filaments to attachment sites on the plasma me...
متن کاملEndothelial adherens and tight junctions in vascular homeostasis, inflammation and angiogenesis.
Endothelial cells lining the vessel wall are connected by adherens, tight and gap junctions. These junctional complexes are related to those found at epithelial junctions but with notable changes in terms of specific molecules and organization. Endothelial junctional proteins play important roles in tissue integrity but also in vascular permeability, leukocyte extravasation and angiogenesis. In...
متن کاملEffect of heparin II domain of fibronectin on actin cytoskeleton and adherens junctions in human trabecular meshwork cells.
PURPOSE To determine whether the heparin II (HepII) domain of fibronectin previously shown to increase outflow facility affects the formation and assembly of actin cytoskeleton and adherens junctions in human trabecular meshwork (HTM) cells. METHODS Normal HTM cells and two transformed HTM cell lines were treated for 24 hours with increasing concentrations of the HepII domain. Disruptions in ...
